Resumen

A pesar del auge de la responsabilidad social empresarial, aún falta responder si contribuye a maximizar los beneficios de las firmas y si genera los positivos impactos sociales y ambientales que dicen sus promotores. El autor discute estas cuestiones y argumenta que la responsabilidad social empresarial tiene potencial para promover el desarrollo y ampliar el rango de garantías ciudadanas que determinan las condiciones de vida de la población. Examina brevemente las condiciones institucionales para materializar ese potencial y el papel decisivo que pueden jugar las organizaciones sociales y los medios de comunicación. Sugiere una agenda de investigación para entender mejor la responsabilidad social empresarial en Colombia y su contribución real al fortalecimiento de la ciudadanía.
