El presente artículo describe el proceso de atención de enfermería brindado al paciente con diagnóstico de pie diabético, que se basa en el modelo de atención de enfermería de Dorothea E. Orem y que resalta las medidas de cuidado preventivas como son la dieta, el ejercicio, los conocimientos y el control de la enfermedad. Con la aplicación de la teoría de Orem se pretende lograr un mejor manejo de esta alteración, con acciones y medidas individualizadas, donde el profesional de enfermería debe planear estrategias para lograr independencia, a fin de fomentar el autocuidado en los pacientes. La presentación de este proceso de atención se hace mediante cuadros explicativos, que hacen hincapié en la intervención de enfermería  en los problemas de salud que requieren atención continua por parte del equipo de salud, en el conocimiento y en el compromiso del paciente hacia el autocuidado.

ABSTRACT

The following article makes reference to the nursing attention process given to the patient whit diabetic foot diagnostic, applying the nursing attention model of Dorothea E. Orem, highlighting the preventive care as diet, exercise and the knowledge and control of the illness. Whith the application of the theory of Orem, it pretnds to contribute to the achievement of a better management of this illness, whit steps and actions individualized where the nursing professional must  to plan strategies to achieve independency, fomenting a selr-care culture in the patients. The presentation of the nursing attention process it's made in explicative square emphasizing in the nursing intervention in health troubles that requires continous attention from the health team, the knowledge and compromise of the patient whit the self-care.
