Abstract

The depression has been considered a pathology related to cardiovascular decesases and not only a factor of risk for coronary desease. It is a pathology of high prevalence in patients who have survived a myocardial infarction during the hospitalization and the first year after being released. The depression appears in these patients because of the chronic condition of their decease, the accuracy of the perceptions of the patient about the seriousness of his/her condition. The above is it necessary that the nursing professionals opportunely identify the symptoms of depression and provide an essential care based on not only his/her physical recovery but also his / her emotional and social recovery. This, in order to increase the levels of social and personal funtioning and the adherence treatment, to improve the quality of life and reduce hospital admissions. Next, some accounts of the present context of the depression will be described, its relationship with the acute myocardial infarction and the nursing intervention.
