Abstract

The Disability concept and its different forms (impairment, disability and handicap) are reviewed. The problem is studied from an international and Colombian context, and a brief historic overview of the problem is provided. The description of the models that have served as basis for disability studies are described. Legal topics are introduced as an aid to evaluate the evolution of disability concept and its heterogeneity. Finally national and international legal frames are described and the rights of people with disabilities are introduced.
