Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the politics of memory and the public uses of history
in the context of the bicentennial of independence in Colombia. It proposes a double balance. On the one hand, the rituals: those celebrations and commemorative projects, both official and dissident, who were held to mark the 200 years of “independence” from Colombia. In the other hand, the documents: books, articles, documentaries and other intellectual and artistic production that has been addressed
to reflect on the bicentennial celebrations in Colombia and Latin America.
