BACKGROUND: dentine is the structural axis of teeth and the mineralized tissue that constitutes the largest part of the teeth structure. It has two basic components; the mineralized matrix and the tubules that go through it. Since tubules are connected by organic material, which is less elastic than tubules along their axis, and since dentine exhibits a special biomechanical behavior due to its wide composition. some authors have argued that dentine is a non-isotropic tissue while other sustain that it is isotropic. OBJECTIVE:as a result of this controversy, the basic reason for this research was to analyze with finits elements the biomechanical behavior of a dentine ideal model, keeping on mind its composition, and to describe how stress is distributed when applying compressive charges in different directions with respect to tubules. METHOD: the ALGOR programwas used todesign the three dimensional model. The stress applied was parallel and perpendicular to dentine tubules. Information was analyzed by observing stress concentrations through a qualitative analysis. RESULTS: when applying charges, the dentine ideal model behaved orthotropically due to the fact that it has different elastic properties in different plane and the properties are no dependant on the direction in each plane. It was found that the biggest effort concentrated when applying parallel and perpendicular charges was in peritubular dentine, and that the biggest deformation was in tubular liquid.
ER -
