Resumen

Las lesiones por presión (LPP) son un síndrome geriátrico y representan un impacto en la salud del paciente mayor. La inmovilidad como resultado de una hospitalización es un factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de lesiones por presión. Objetivo: Resumir los conceptos actuales en prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de las lesiones por presión en pacientes hospitalizados. Metodología de búsqueda: Búsqueda avanzada en las principales bases de datos, utilizando términos MeSH y operadores booleanos, con criterios de inclusión y exclusión predeterminados. Conclusiones: La prevención es la intervención más importante en el manejo de las LPP. El tratamiento según las características externas y la fase de la cicatrización marcarán el plan de cuidados durante la estancia hospitalaria que se pueden prolongar hasta el domicilio o una clínica de heridas ambulatoria. Las LPP generan un impacto considerable a salud del paciente, familia/cuidadores, además de incrementar los gastos de atención.
