Abstract
This research constitutes the second stage of a previous investigation carried out for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, unesco, in 2001. It has to do with the state of research on the mass media and violence in Latin America between 1998 and 2005. The purpose of this article is to present a synthesis and critical evaluation of the studies and academic publications that have dealt with this problem over the last eight years, following three analytical axes. With this purpose, we carried out a bibliographical revision describing and analyzing the different theoretical approaches, the methods used, the results obtained, the conclusions, and the contributions of each of the studies, reports, and publications that were objects of analysis.
