Abstract
El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las percepciones sociales y ambientales que tienen los artesanos de la comunidad indígena de San Juan Pamatácuaro, Michoacán, sobre su bosque de coníferas. Con el fin de abarcarlo desde una perspectiva etnográfica fue necesario permanecer un tiempo con la comunidad de estudio y así conocer los pensamientos y sentimientos de los artesanos. En sus propias palabras nos aproximamos a la situación actual de su bosque y a los cambios que ellos identifican. Las fuentes orales nos muestran la diversidad de opiniones, ya que algunos artesanos manifiestan una preocupación ambiental o de preservación del bosque para el futuro, mientras que otros lo consideran primordialmente como un medio para satisfacer sus necesidades; hay quienes tienen su mayor atención en los problemas de alcoholismo y la violencia intrafamiliar, mas no en el bosque. Se escuchan sus voces.
