The State of Accounting Research in Venezuela
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.details##
Accounting research in Venezuela faces a possible stagnation of the investigative agenda. Some researchers call it paradigmatic paralysis, referring to the concentration on themes and the almost exclusive use of a single investigative approach that privileges the quantitative and that, in some way, influences the belief system of researchers about the need to publish under the dominant paradigm. From this perspective, the article intends to analyze the state of accounting research in Venezuela, using descriptive criteria related to the characteristics of public accountants' publications between 2011-2021 and the opinion of Venezuelan researchers who have published articles through an electronic consultation carried out in 2021. The results indicate that articles in non-accounting journals are scarce and concentrated in one dedicated to accounting. In addition, there is a tendency in the articles towards the dominant approach, but not in the doctoral theses, which show research in both approaches. As for the consequences for the discipline, they are related to the limitations of contributing to the wealth of knowledge from other visions and themes. It can be concluded that there are signs of stagnation in the accounting discipline, from the dimension of the type of approach and themes, by concentrating on the quantitative and regulatory issues.
