The Crime of Solicitation: Gender, Narrative, and Resistance

This article explores the Inquisition file against a priest accused of solicitation or requesting sexual favors from his penitent, a woman witness in the process. The sacrament of confession becomes a case to prove religious and sexual abuse of power. Confronting a situation of continued
harassment, she develops a strategy in which she exposes the facts using precise narrative and legal techniques. She uses on her favor the legal system and the control and power tools of the inquisitorial establishment. The abused woman articulates her particular resistance from inside the system, aiming to stop the abuse exerted by the priest.
