Abstract
El artículo tiene como objetivo exponer el proyecto “Canaã” de los arquitectos Joan Villà y Sílvia Chile, un ejemplo de vivienda colectiva contemporánea en la Región Metropolitana de São Paulo, que va más allá de los estándares del mercado inmobiliario actual, tan pobres como generalizados, donde la vivienda parece ser uno de los campos más difíciles para proponer una arquitectura de calidad. Se aborda la comprensión de la cultura y la economía locales como posible solución al problema de la vivienda, buscando una coherencia entre vocación y la disponibilidad de recursos y, además, la creación de nuevas oportunidades reales para promover un verdadero desarrollo económico y de calidad de vida. Se puede ver que los arquitectos partieron de referencias populares y cultas al mismo tiempo, proponiendo una arquitectura con innovaciones en la técnica y el lenguaje.
