Abstract

La Guaira Historical City constitutes a Venezuelan vital patrimonial inventory piece; it combines many high historical and environmental elements. However, its preservation is now even more difficult due to abandonment, physical and economical degradation, little identification and attention from community, and minor interinstitutional support.Since 2000, Instituto de Estudios Regionales y Urbanos at Universidad Simón Bolívar (IERU-USB), with different organizations support, has carried out some activities in La Guaira Historical City, taking special attention to El Guamacho region. The main goal is to unite forces regarding technical teams, public and private institutions and the community, to recover historical cities in order to improve inhabitant’s surroundings and quality of life.
