Abstract
For native inhabitants of Las Calles -a town located in Traslasierra Valley, in Córdoba province, Argentina-“their” village started to change due to the impact of urban migration ten years ago. On one hand, the receiving society understands the physiognomic transformations of the community from the point of view of the temporal reference “before/ now”; on the other hand, the arrival of city-dwellers to the village is perceived as invasive, understood by means of its negation. The aim is to reflect about the transformations related to space, identity and relationships within a little town on the basis of the identity accounts of the native inhabitants. In this study, we look for interpretations and perceptions nurtured by different imaginaries like development, progress, belonging, well-being, work, space, time and, above all, the perception of who is the “other”. In this context, the diversity of origins, belongings, traditions and values jeopardize the configuration of the local identity.
