Abstract
Una de las formas como el habitante percibe y comprende los asentamientos humanos es el paisaje urbano. En esta Ponencia se aborda el Paisaje urbano desde una perspectiva semiótica. A partir de nociones teóricas básicas y mediante un proceso hermenéutico, se propone desarrollar y profundizar la dimensión signo-simbólica del paisaje urbano, su complejidad relacional y su proyección de sentido en el aspecto ecológico, entendido éste como la interrelación naturaleza-cultura.
La condición semiótica del paisaje urbano, hace referencia a su capacidad de mediar el sentido de la realidad urbana. Dicho sentido es de carácter sígnico o cultural y de carácter simbólico o creativo. Por esta razón, los paisajes urbanos, permiten comprender las múltiples relaciones entre los diferentes grupos sociales y la manera como se insertan o se marginan entre sí en el seno de la comunidad urbana.
