Abstract
El propósito de este artículo es dar una mirada crítica a la práctica de laagricultura urbana, asumida como expresión empírica de la emergencia de nuevas
ruralidades. Buscando elementos para argumentar la ocurrencia de transformaciones,
el documento inicia aludiendo a la visión clásica de la distinción entre lo
rural y lo urbano, seguido de los conceptos de agricultura urbana y periurbana.
Una vez expuesto lo anterior, la discusión se centra sobre las siguientes preguntas:
¿es la agricultura urbana distinta a la agricultura rural?, ¿de qué manera el
proceso de expansión urbana motiva la práctica agrícola y pecuaria al interior de
las ciudades?, ¿qué papel atribuir a la producción agrícola directa en cuanto
actividad incorporada a la dinámica urbana? El artículo finaliza con una
propuesta de tipificación de la agricultura urbana de acuerdo con los motivos de
origen, seguida de algunas consideraciones finales.
