Abstract
El turismo comunitario se está desarrollando en el mundo como una alternativa a los viajes tradicionales. Así, este tipo de turismo permite un mayor contacto con la comunidad local y la experimentación con nuevas sensaciones. En este artículo presentamos un estudio realizado en un área de Nicaragua acerca de la percepción que tienen los residentes para desarrollar, a través de la propia comunidad local, un destino turístico basado en los importantes recursos de carácter ecológico de la zona y en la hospitalidad de sus habitantes. La metodología utilizada se basa en un trabajo de campo realizado en dicha zona durante los meses de septiembre a noviembre de 2008. Como principales resultados destacamos la percepción por parte de la comunidad local de que el desarrollo turístico puede generar riqueza y crear puestos de trabajo, aunque para ello es necesaria una capacitación técnica previa por parte de diferentes organizaciones públicas y privadas, destacando las ONGs.Cuadernos de Desarrollo Ruralis registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
