Abstract
Este artículo utiliza información de la Encuesta Nacional a Hogares Rurales de México2008 con el objetivo de analizar los factores que influyen en la diversificación de actividades y, a su vez, determinar el impacto de esta sobre los ingresos de los hogares rurales mexicanos. Las estimaciones econométricas señalan que la diversificación resulta clave para incrementar los ingresos y, por tanto, la eficiencia económica. Cerca del 80% de los hogares analizados en la Encuesta Nacional se diversifica por motivo de sobrevivencia, mientras que el resto lo hace por acumulación. Lo anterior indica que las políticas de apoyo a los hogares rurales mexicanos deben tener patrones claros de focalización, especialmente para los hogares con menores ingresos.
