Abstract
Este trabajo analiza la instrumentación de las políticas macroeconómicas en Venezuela,durante 1989-2000, y sus implicaciones sobre la economía venezolana y el sector rural. Elartículo concluye que la volatilidad de las políticas macroeconómicas impidió la creación deuna estrategia de largo plazo orientada a lograr la apertura y estabilización de la economía.Esto generó una tendencia a la inestabilidad y el estancamiento la cual fortaleció la dependenciadel ingreso petrolero. En este contexto el sector agrícola evidenció una tendencia al estancamientocausada por el reajuste en los precios de los factores productivos, el colapso del gastopúblico y la ausencia de estímulos provenientes de la demanda. Esto conformó un entornoinstitucional y económico que potenció tendencias previas a reducir la participación campesinaen la producción, aunque en algunas regiones ésta se incrementó debido a la capacidad de loscampesinos de desarrollar estrategias para adaptarse a los cambios en el entorno.Cuadernos de Desarrollo Ruralis registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
