Abstract
El país ha experimentado una profunda transformación de la estructura de laeconomía rural al terminar el siglo XX. En el artículo se analiza si el grado departicipación de la agricultura en el PIB nacional y el proceso gradual de reducciónque se ha presentado es el adecuado para un país de las características deColombia. El análisis se hace con base en aspectos económicos tales como laparticipación en el empleo, concentración de la propiedad de la tierra, superficiecultivada, política sectorial y macroeconómica, comercio exterior, revaluación delpeso, y, haciendo mención a aspectos extraeconómicos como, la inseguridad, laviolencia, la guerra. El artículo concluye afirmando la existencia de un limitadodesarrollo de la agricultura y del sector rural, que se traduce en fragilidad de laeconomía de las zonas rurales e inestabilidad en su vida social y política, situaciónque acentúa los problemas existentes debido a la deficiente inserción con el restode la economía nacional.Cuadernos de Desarrollo Ruralis registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
