Abstract
La preocupación por la sostenibilidad de los procesos de desarrollo se ha acrecentado en los últimosaños, acompañada por la definición de indicadores o sistemas de indicadores de sostenibilidad para suseguimiento y control. En Chile, esta preocupación ha estado más bien ligada a la dimensión ambientaly sectores urbanos. No obstante, frente a las profundas transformaciones de los territorios ruralesproducto de los procesos de globalización y modernización, ha aumentado la inquietud por la sostenibilidadde los espacios rurales y de la pequeña producción agropecuaria. En este artículo se presenta unapropuesta de un sistema de indicadores de sostenibilidad de los espacios rurales, con especial énfasisen la dimensión social. Este sistema de indicadores, orientado al nivel local, se construyó a partirde una metodología que combinó aproximaciones cuantitativas y cualitativas. Se compone de cinco dimensiones y de subtemas e indicadores simples para cada una de ellas.
