Abstract
En el presente trabajo se analiza la naturaleza del nuevo contexto en que se encuentra inmerso actualmente el sector agrarioy sus mercados y cuál puede ser su evolución, con el objetivo de proponer aquellos cambios estructurales y organizativosen orden a una mayor eficiencia. El concepto eficiencia se entiende, no sólo en el proceso productivo, sino también en lacaptura de los valores añadidos que se generan en los procesos de comercialización e industrialización, buscando una mayorcompetitividad y la mejora de la renta de los agricultores.Por otra parte, y para su mejor comprensión, se efectúa un breve estudio del cooperativismo en la Unión Europea,y especialmente en España, mediante el examen de sus potencialidades y amenazas. Los resultados ponen demanifiesto la necesidad, entre otras acciones, de promocionar y fomentar el desarrollo del mismo, junto a losprocesos de integración intercooperativa, con la finalidad de que el agricultor asociado pueda hacer frente con éxitoa la creciente competitividad y globalización de los mercados.Cuadernos de Desarrollo Ruralis registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
