Abstract
Este artículo analiza los principales cambios en elsector agrícola venezolano en el contexto de laglobalización, y como una consecuencia de lainstrumentación de políticas de ajuste estructural desde1989. El artículo describe las nuevas políticas queafectaron al sector agrícola y el proceso de reestructuraciónque se vive. También se discuten los principalesefectos de tales políticas con orientación de mercado.El autor propone políticas que mejoren lacompetitividaddel sector para tener éxito en un ambiente caracterizadopor la necesidad de continuar con la apertura de losmercados y menor apoyo gubernamental. Finalmente,el autor expone las lecciones de la experiencia venezolana,enfatizando la necesidad de legitimar los ajustesestructurales y ejecutar intervenciones públicas selectivasen el contexto de un apropiado ambientemacroeconómico.Cuadernos de Desarrollo Ruralis registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
