Abstract
Los pequeños productores agrícolas en Zapotlán El Grande, México, viven cambios significativos en sus prácticas productivas y de consumo, como resultado de la modificación estructural de la economía mexicana y su impacto en la agricultura, así como el crecimiento urbano de Ciudad Guzmán. En este trabajo se muestra cómo estos cambios son de naturaleza tan diversa, que dan cuenta de un mundo rural totalmente distinto a aquel modelo que se había formado en la sociología rural. Ante ello, el concepto de nueva ruralidad resulta pertinente pues destaca que la dicotomía rural-agrícola respecto a la urbano-industrial, hoy menos que nunca refleja la realidad que se vive en las pequeñas comunidades, o su relación con las ciudades y el mundo global.
