Sociodemographic profile of women who complain about abuse of partner in the city of Cali

Violence perpetred by a pertner is a public health problem in addition to be considered a social problem. This research had as purpose to study women that denounce their situation rearding intimate partner violence in the presence of Comisarias de Familia. Objetive: (i) To describe sociodemographic characteristics of battered women; (ii) To describe family histores of intimate partner violence of battered women, and (iii) to describe personal characteristics of battered women. Methodology: the research desing was cross-sectional by survey; the convenience sample was composed dof women that go to "Family Comissaries" to expose their partner violence situation in Cali, Colombia. The instrument applied was a questionnaire about sociodemographic and personal data applied by personal interview. The study had approval by Institutional Review Board - Ethic Committee. Results: The sample was 100 women, it was observed that the majority of women belongs to low socioeconomic strata, with low family income, low education; 12% unemployed, 43% were housewives; most of them with children, 44% with antecedents of family violence, 40% with intimate partner violence in a former intimate relationship. Discussion: Finding are compared with results from National Survey on Demography and Health for Colombia, with data for Cali; it is presented implications for health, education, wellbeing, justice sectors and for nursing practice.
