Abstract

The purpose of this study was to design and identify the indicators of validity of content and the validity apparent of an instrument to evaluate the capacity of agency of self care, that consist of 41 items brought together in three categories (basic capacities, components of power and capacity of fulfilling the self care). The validity of the content was established since the analysis of the persistency, relevance and redaction of the items with the established categories. After the experts concepts were received, the CVI (Content Index Validity) was analyzed and went straight to modify each of them according to the received suggestions and taking in account the following parameters.

  • If the CVI was greater than 0.80, the indicator was maintained
  • If the CVI was lower than 0.80 in all the criteria, the indicator was discarded.
  • If the CVI was lower than 0.80 in one or two of the criteria, the corrections and adjustment of the indicator were made.

The validity apparent allowed to evaluate the clarity and the comprehension of the instrument without ambiguity. In this study the analysis of the apparent validity was made taking into account the following evaluation criteria: Extension and clarity. The results of validity showed an index of validity of content of 0.93, getting a final instrument with 40 items. Demostrating in this way the apparent adequated validity and of the content of the instrument according to the established criteria. For this reason the reliability and the validity of the instrument structure will be determined in a population in a second phase of the study.
