Abstract

This paper proposes a reflection on the conceptual approach of old age from the biological and culture aging. Thus, categories about the explanation of the aging process related to the age distinction in society, theories of aging, aging subjectivity, knowledge and practices of the transition rite of passage from adult to elder are proposed. This article suggests the importance of interpreting the aging in a particular way based on the social context of development, defined in the conditions of existence of the elder population in everyday life without ignoring the biological and demographical issues.
