Abstract

In our continent, commemorations as a history study objective have focused on defining events for Latin American nations like the
Independence and the Discovery of America. However, these are only two entrances to a vast field that is interwoven with the life and
death of heroes, a topic that has not been studied in depth. This paper attempts to reconstruct the way the centenary commemoration
of the death of Francisco de Paula Santander was conducted on a regional and local context. In this process we propose to focus attention on the role played by the Centro de Historia de Santander as a promoting entity that drives this kind of regional moving actions that contribute to enrich the national memory. The article is based on institutional documentation such as correspondence, minutes of meetings, the local press and the journal of the Center.
