Patricia Lara's article addresses the domestic architecture of the social elite of Bogotá while examining the transformations that occurred there as well as the continuities within it. The article investigates the spaces and the conditions of the rooms of nineteenth century homes of Bogotá with special reference to the formal gathering room. This study takes into account two basic aspects: the «planimetría» (planned design of the living space) and constructional aspects.
