Abstract
What was the meaning of space within the administrative-political project that the Crown sought to install in New Granada? This article offers a glimpse at the process through wich, beginning with the possession of a new territori, the Crown affirmed its power and legitimated its presence based on the desings of God and the force of law. The city was imposed as the place of administration and justice. New explorations would originate from the city. This process would allow for the gradual reduction of space between the conquered and unconquered space.
