Abstract
In January 1959 the Vega de Tera dam (Zamora), built by the Moncabril company, broke, and with it one of the greatest Spanish tragedies not only due to the number of deaths but also due to the material losses caused in Ribadelago , in which as a result of the flood, practically the entire population disappeared. Given the magnitude of the catastrophe, there was an important solidarity movement at the national and international level, and the official aid response, which led Franco to adopt the Zamora population, thereby generating a new population that today becomes a testimony of the catastrophe and in a heritage that is only understood in relation to it.
