Abstract
The First Centenary of Independence provides the occasion to relive the glories of the past and witness the role that founding fathers have done to carry out this historic feat; to present to the world renovated cities, with new urban projects, such as the installation of modern sewer systems and lighting; and to make funds available to initiate other architectural projects and conclude previously planned projects, as well as, incorporating important sculptural work to decorate them. The publication of books was one of the concerns of the groups, formed for celebrations of this First Centenary. This is an inescapable topic of study by Ecuadorian historians to communicate the reasons for which Ecuador separated from the Spanish imperial and formed its own independent State; to explain the why of the revolution and its consequences from different points of view, the successes that were felt, not only in the economic aspect but the spirit of the population, as well as other factors such as the devastation experienced by the cities in the sierra from the 1859 and 1968 earthquakes. However, in the past few decades, the historical vision of the 21st century changed due to contribution from the "history of ideas" and the "history of philosophical thinking", which allowed a greater understanding of this period, regarded as a social and cultural act inscribed in a particular historical context; this established a rereading of the entire process, explained from the socioeconomic context, which had existed since the second half of the 18th century.
