Abstract
This article discusses how Colombia stands out, within the context of Latin America, have been able to combine economic growth with stability, but has performed less well in terms of development compared to other countries in the region. Through an account of results of analysts of this topic, the article shows how the country’s productive structure tends increasingly towards low value added activities in the area of natural resources and perspectives of uncertainty in terms of competitiveness because the Development Plan 2010-2014 does not consider strategies to face special conditions of the new global economic context. Specifically, although the Plan refers to a important international presence it has no policies or objectives in the field of competitiveness such as industrial promotion, management of exchange rates and capital flows, balance between public and private demand, and fiscal targets related to a long-term vision to adjust fundamental structures such as sectoral, regional, fiscal situation.
