Abstract
This text presents an analysis of the news published in the newspaper The New York Times, digital version, between the months of January and June 2004. By relating them to the social aspects of Brazil, we try to see what image that newspaper shows of the Brazil. The article adopts as theoretical and methodological foundations discourse analysis, mainly the contributions of Bell (1991), Fairclough (1995 and 2001), Fowler (1991) and Sousa (2004), discusses the discursive strategies used to represent Brazil and examines what elements it chooses and the language resources that are used for the production of the texts analyzed.
