The purpose of Wildemuth's book is to offer researchers in the fields of librarianship and information science a series of research strategies common in the social sciences, adapted to the interests and themes of librarianship. As the author points out in the "Introduction", professionals in these areas receive education about research methods, supported mainly in texts from disciplines of the social sciences, such as psychology or sociology, but with little application to problems and interests of librarianship and information science. The novelty of this book lies in its intention to fill this void, illustrating the various research methods of the social sciences with examples drawn from the considerable body of research in librarianship and information science, especially from centers of study in the United States.
