Abstract
In the context of the 5th General Conference of CELAM in Aparecida and starting from the document on Participation an analysis is made of a fundamental church option that has been present in the theology, the faith and the praxis of the Latin American Church: the option for the poor. Does this fact continue to be a church force, incarnated in the very mystery of God? Trying to institute a serious reflection on the ecclesial
and historic challenges which the Church mission has to face in the Latin American context, the paper points to a theological cause that can explain the fading of the option for the poor in the above-said document: an option that is not articulated with the mystery of God and the mission of Christ, the reigning of God in actu.
