Abstract

This paper studies the subject of the evangelization of politics starting from the reflections of the Conference of Church Movements and New Communities (Bogotá, March 9-12, 2006), convoked by the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the CELAM, with the purpose of offering suggestions to the Fifth General Conference of the Latin American Bishops and to take decisions on the behavior of laity today. The document «Christian presence in society and politics, a work of reconciliation and justice» is commented upon and an analysis is made of the challenge and problem that this presence entails from the perspective of the dynamics of communion and conflict. These dynamics project themselves as much at the microlevel, which refers to the structures of the civic-political system, as at the macrolevel, which demands an historical awareness, to bring about the idea that Latin America should become pioneer in the building of the culture of love.
