Abstract
Tres son los motivos principales para acoger el tema de "San Ignacio de Loyola y la universidad" al hablar sobre la espiritualidad del fundador de la Compañía de Jesús: primero, porque fue la Universidad la institución que acogió al convertido de Loyola después de sus profundas experiencias místicas de la casa solariega y de Manresa y, no solamente acrisoló su espíritu, sino contribuyó a su formación humana y científica dándole una dimensión característica a su entrega al "Rey eterno y Señor universal"; segundo, porque fue en el medio universitario donde Ignacio validó, ciertamente con dificultades y en medio de persecuciones, la experiencia vital de los Ejercicios espirituales que forjó el
espíritu de sus primeros compañeros, núcleo primigenio de la Compañia de Jesús; finalmente, tercero, porque de la expericncia universitaria de Ignacio y sus compañeros surgió toda una concepción de los estudios y, en concreto, de la educación universitaria que quedó plasmada en las Constituciones de la Compañia de Jesús como una de las notas características de su carisma apostólico.
