Abstract

Most Colombian lawyers are aware of the existence of a Code of Professional Responsibility which punishes attorneys faults to honesty, professional diligence and loyalty with clients. Few recall that the Code also punishes breaches of dignity such as (i) the state of drunkenness at legal proceedings, (ii) sharing fees with others that help them acquire clients and (iii) taking advantage of relevant difficulties that seriously impair the freedom of choice of the potential client. This article discusses the cases of
professional misconduct of lawyers related with dignity, in light of the legislation and case law both nationally and internationally.
