Abstract

The relationship between technology and the quality of life is commonly conceptualized as follows: in modem societies, the enhancement of the quality of life is best achieved by technological means. Technology takes human needs, preferences and desires as input and produces the most suitable output, when it is not disturbed by extra-technical bias. This overly simplistic view may be criticized on severa] grounds. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the most important of these criticisms.
