Abstract
El presente trabajo se propone mostrar cómo la irrupción del pobre en América Latina ha dado lugar a una nueva lógica o tejido de las relaciones sociales. Estas se jugarán entonces en un espacio abierto, basado en la solidaridad y aunado por la necesidad. Este nuevo espacio constituye una configuración del ser social característica de América Latina, a la que se le denomina vecindario, el cual ya no se entiende del modo corriente como la simple proximidad de los que viven en una cercanía espacio-temporal. El vecindario, como aquí se le concibe, está animado por la projimidad, la que hace que la distancia necesaria entre personas diversas se vea recubierta por una respectividad que lleva a que las personas estén verdaderamente interesadas las unas por las otras. En el vecindario, así concebido, se crea una urdimbre de interrelaciones personales cuyo sujeto no es uno solo sino la común-unidad que allí se instituye.
