Abstract

En repetidas ocasiones, el filósofo Paul Ricoeur se ha referido a la realidad histórica latinoamericana con la densa y magnífica expresión "trabajo del símbolo". El autor trata de iluminar esta expresión con la luz que proyecta la tesis central de la última obra de Ricoeur, Temps et recit: la teoría de la "triple mímesis". Desde la perspectiva de el "trabajo del símbolo" engloba el conjunto de operaciones de prefiguración, configuración, y refiguración mediante las cuales los individuos y las comunidades nos vamos asignando una identidad específica que podemos llamar "identidad narrativa". La última parte del artículo quiere esbozar algunos rasgos de la "identidad narrativa" aplicada a la realidad latinoamericana.
