Abstract
In The Human Place in the Cosmos Scheler presents instinct as a predominant behavior in the actions of animals and, in the same way, observes that man, as a psychophysical being, also possesses it and performs instinctive actions. The dfference between man and animal is the spirit, absent in the second one and present in the first one, that is why he can act rationally. This article investigates the presence of instinct in the con- stitution of man as a living being, analyzing how it is verified in intelligent human behavior.
