Abstract
El Cojo Ilustrado puede ser considerado uno de los proyectos editoriales más importantes de la modernidad y el modernismo en América Latina. La revista se funda en la idea de privilegiar la imagen sobre el texto, incluso haciendo posible que no haya correlación alguna entre ambos. Propongo que la excelente calidad de las imágenes es tan novedosa y preponderante que impone un tipo de modernidad pretenciosa aunque poco arriesgada, por un lado; y, por el otro, embellece, distrae y contribuye a la creación de un espacio completamente experimental que le permite a los escritores y colaboradores la posibilidad de ensayar contenidos no siempre domesticados y que pasan totalmente desapercibidos de la supervisión editorial. La escisión entre imagen y texto crea un espacio incongruente, ilegible si se quiere, que además pone en crisis el plan letrado y educativo sustentado por una revista familiar. De esto modo, se presenta un espacio que voy a llamar adulterado en cuanto reta la representación de cualquier idea fija que pretenda construirse como verdad única, como moral absoluta y en donde se ensayan las patologías sexuales más discutidas de la época como el masoquismo, el fetichismo y el exhibicionismo.
