Abstract
¿Se puede considerar a la Primera Guerra Mundial como un evento latinoamericano? ¿En qué sentido podría pensarse que el predicado ‘mundial’ de la Gran Guerra incluye a América Latina? Estas preguntas —cuya eficacia depende de su potencial polémico— cuestionan el sentido común académico desde el que suele abordarse un conflicto militar sin precedentes. La participación meramente simbólica de Brasil y las colonias formales e informales de Estados Unidos en la región no es suficiente para inscribir a la Primera Guerra Mundial en el espacio discursivo latinoamericano, y sin embargo, este artículo propone que desde el punto de vista de la historia cultural y literaria, es posible considerar la inscripción de América Latina en la Gran Guerra: América Latina como parte integral de un evento cuya globalidad incluiría a la cultura latinoamericana dentro del campo discursivo desigual que lo define.
