Abstract
The figures of Alfonso Reyes and Ramón López Velarde might be seen dissimilar despite having shared the same timelines; however, their poetics show that there are common topics between their styles. Therefore, in this article different onomastic strategies will be applied to analyze the poetic works of Ramón López Velarde and Alfonso Reyes, from their early stages to their mature texts, which will allow us to notice the importance of names in literature and how each one appropriates anthroponyms and toponyms to generate different effects in their works. Additionally, the use of different names allows each author to shape a language that will distinguish them in the Mexican literature of the 20th century.
