Abstract
El trabajo se propone una lectura de Zárate (1882), de Eduardo Blanco, con el objetivo de plantear un problema central para el estudio de la novela hispanoamericana del siglo XIX: sus vínculos con la literatura pensada para un muy amplio público (la llamada en ese entonces “literatura industrial”). Al rastrear los múltiples juegos intertextuales que propone la novela, como sus vínculos con Quentin Durward de Walter Scott, se puede tener una perspectiva más justa sobre las expectativas de los lectores venezolanos del siglo XIX y, al mismo tiempo, trazar un nuevo “perfil” de Eduardo Blanco que no lo condene a ser únicamente el patriótico autor de Venezuela heroica (1881) y de una novela cuyo único interés sería el tema histórico (esto es, Zárate).Cuadernos de Literatura is registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
