Abstract

En el presente artículo se efectúa un ejercicio de tres niveles para abordar la interpretación de Manhattan transfer del escritor norteamericano John Dos Passos. Se identifica el significado de la novela en relación con las vanguardias artísticas de principios del siglo XX, se indaga la técnica en la construcción de la narración a partir del montaje cinematográfico, y se analiza la experiencia ficticia del tiempo en los personajes. El collage, como gran emblema de  la renovación de las artes modernas, se propone como una metáfora de la ciudad, en tanto el montaje, con una dimensión temporal a su interior, lo es de Manhattan transfer.
