Abstract
Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el sentido y los usos de la palabra escrita en José Artigas. Se trara de un corpus discursivo que, entre la cultura oral y la letrada, entre el discurso iluminista de las revoluciones liberales y el tradicional del caudillismo, logra constituirse como un espacio de representación "otro", cuya legitimidad no proviene enteramente ni de lo culto ni de lo popular, sino de una peculiar inflexión de ambos. El artículo se divide en dos partes. En la primera, se analiza el papel que cumplió la escritura como práctica cultural en el contexto del discurso artiguista. En la segunda, a través de algunos textos significativos de Artigas, se analizan las estrategias discursivas para construir la entidad pueblo, como uno de los ejes de legitimación de su discurso.Cuadernos de Literatura is registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
