Abstract
Durante el siglo XX, en Latinoamérica se vivió la experiencia de la modernidad de manera singular. Hay que tener en cuenta, sin embargo, que el proceso de inmersión en la historia del hombre latinoamericano difiere del europeo. Mientras éste pertenece a una civilización de varios milenios, aquél se ha formado por la mezcla de razas en un proceso que lleva tan solo quinientos años. Por su parte, el desarraigo con respecto a una concepción clásica del mundo(si tomamos éste como rasgo característico de la modernidad), no supera los dos siglos, y el proceso de urbanización acelerado de las naciones del continente no ha dado tiempo a sus moradores para que asimilen una época de cambios estremecedores.
